iPad 2 Surge is breathtaking

Analysts are predicting Apple will sell 500,000 to 600,000 iPad2’s this past weekend alone. I must say that the success Apple has in developing and launching a new product, in particular the iPad 2, is breathtaking! Consider the following:

· Apple sold 300,000 of the first iPad the first weekend. The iPad 2 will crush this.
· The iPad line is the fastest-selling technology product in history, measured by revenue, according to Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies Inc. In less than three months, it topped $2 billion -- a milestone the iPhone took more than six quarters to reach.
· In 2010, Apple sold 15 million iPads, generating $9.6 billion in sales, literally creating a new industry (or completely redefining what ‘tablet’ means). Over 60 companies are launching over 100 different tablets in 2011.
· Rodman & Renshaw, another Analyst firm, are predicting Apple will sell 35 million units in 2011 alone.
· Customers have access to more than 350,000 applications in Apple’s App Store, including more than 65,000 tailored for the iPad (remember, iPad started selling in April, 2010).
· This fiscal year, the iPad could bring in revenue of $16.3 billion for Apple, according to Toni Sacconaghi, an analyst at Bernstein. The iPhone didn’t reach that level until more than three years after its release.
· Outside the U.S., the iPad 2 will make its’ debut on March 25 in 26 other markets, including Mexico, New Zealand, Spain and other European countries (with the success in the U.S. just this past weekend, some are saying Canada’s release date will be pushed out).

What’s truly an eye-opener is that from a technology perspective, the logic within the iPad is miniscule compared to the size of the 3 batteries that consume most of the space. You have to admire Apple for offering a product versus a technology marvel.

By any measure, the iPad 2 is already wildly successful. And at a starting price of $499, it’s killing the competition. Well done Apple- again!
