Choosing the Right Carrier is Tricky

It’s very frustrating and time consuming to decide which carrier and plan is right for the way you use a cell. Currently, about 95% of Canadians use the big three- Rogers, Bell or TELUS[1]. Now there are newer entrants like Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, etc. that have cheaper plans but it’s still tricky trying to compare ‘apples and apples’. Some argue you should choose the carrier before the phone! Here are some important decisions you need to make upfront before you decide which carrier is right for you. These are the minimum questions to ask. We’ve also included how hereiam™ can help in this decision making-

Questions to Ask

Why is it Important

How hereiam™ Can Help

Exactly when do “night” and "anytime" minutes kick in?

Many plans offer a combination of each of these minutes. Be careful though, because these terms don’t mean the same thing for all carriers. The time of day you use the phone makes a difference in selecting the best plan.

You get hereiam™ savings regardless of when you use your cell.

When does “out of calling area” start?

This is important because you could be using your phone for ‘out of calling’ area calls- for example Toronto to Oakville or Ajax to Toronto. Carriers charge 35- 45 cents per minute for these calls.

With hereiam™, all ‘out of calling area’ is only 5 cents per minute for substantial savings.

What is the price per minute if I exceed the limit on my plan?

Rate plans vary drastically- it’s important to understand the cost of exceeding your minutes versus paying for the next higher package plan.

Use hereiam™ as a Favorite Number and all calls in and out are free!

Is long distance included?

Some plans include long distance service (i.e. 30 minutes for $3.00). International long distance can be very expensive.

hereiam definitely helps- you pay only 5 cents per minute and substantial lower rates internationally.

What exactly are the “Additional Charges”?

Additional services such as Caller ID, voice mail, text messaging, etc., may be included in the monthly charge or you’re charged extra, depending on the plan.

hereiam definitely helps- unlimited voicemail is included (Mobile Office and Travel Pack), texting out is free.

What are voice roaming charges? Data charges?

Canada has some of the highest rates in the world. Using your cell outside Canada for voice or data can be very expensive.

hereiam is only pennies per call suing a local SIM card (hereiam™ uses voice channels, not data)

You need to check carefully the packaged plans the different carriers have to your actual usage when looking to get the best deal. Unfortunately it can be pretty tricky so carefully go over in detail the fine print. Bottom line, hereiam™ can definitely help save money no matter what carrier or plan you choose!
