Your DNA Changes When Mobile

DNA is very important in communications: DNA is the acronym for the device you have (D), the network you are on (N) and the application you are using (A). When you are mobile your DNA changes and this impacts how you do business. Here’s why:

We spend a lot of time choosing our cell phone; after all, it’s what we use communicate. Some of us have smartphones- a Blackberry, an iPhone, or an Android smartphone. Before choosing which one we want, we spend considerable time at Best Buy or at our Provider’s store going over the various devices. For some enterprises, we have no choice, it’s mandated. Even the non-smartphones are important when choosing which one we need, considering the texting capabilities and ease in communicating. This device quickly becomes our next ‘right hand’.

Next is the network and the cell carrier you choose. Most carriers say they have the best coverage in the country and even though there are pockets where calls are dropped, we have pretty good coverage in North America. When deciding on the network a key consideration is the cost for using voice and data and we spend a lot of time in deciding how to get the best value. Other than this consideration, the network is a really commodity discussion.

The applications are becoming more important in your DNA makeup. There are literally thousands available for use on smartphones- CRM for Sales, Fleet Tracking for the Trucking industry, electronic forms for the service industry, etc. These applications can increase productivity and save money for the company.

So here’s the question- if your DNA is already decided, how does it change when mobile? I hope there’s no surprise here but the reality is that you’re never using only one specific device or one network or one application in business. Your cell phone is only one of several devices you use when communicating, your cell network is just one part of what you require (you need the wireline and Internet networks) and your business applications must interact with one another. Here are some examples-

· Each morning when you’re driving to work, you can listen to your voice messages, but can you listen to your emails? For a lot of people, no… your cell network isn’t integrated with your Internet Provider.

· During the day, if someone is trying to contact you live, will you be automatically called at business and if you don’t pick up, be called on your cell or your home office phone? For a lot of people, no… you’re not able to call forward your business to your cell when you walk out the door, or you have to do this manually. It gets tricky with more than two.

· Can you get the same discounted long distance rates using your cell as you do on your office phone? For a lot of people, no… including big companies. The cell carriers charge much higher long distance rates.

· When out of town, can you use a Contact List you use in the office when you’re 3,000 miles away? For a lot of people, no… the Contact List is a function of the PC back at the office.

This is where hereiam™ helps because we integrate all your communications onto a single platform. hereiam™ is independent of your DNA. Our service works with whatever device, network or application you are using to communicate.
